Athletic Therapy

Regardless of the name, Athletic Therapy is not just for athletes it is for everyone.

Athletic Therapy is a health care profession that specializes in emergency care, prevention, assessment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries (muscles, bones and joints). Athletic Therapists can help patients in a variety of ways from treating current injuries, preventing future injuries, improving muscle and joint mobility, as well as providing pain relief. This is achieved by following the Sports Medicine Model of care using an array or manual therapies, exercise prescription and taping.

What can an Athletic Therapist treat?

  • Workplace (WCB) and motor vehicle accidents (MPI)
  • Chronic and recurring injuries
  • Pre-surgery and post-surgery conditions
  • Common injuries from sports, falls or any daily activities
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Fractures and dislocations

Here at Prairie Trail Physiotherapy we only employ Athletic Therapists who are governed by the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association and who also hold a membership with the provincial Manitoba Athletic Therapy Association. There are insurance providers that cover Athletic Therapy services, however, it is recommended that you contact your provider to confirm.
